The genre map must appear in MediaPortal.xml.  The names of all entries in the genre map are user defined genre names (except for the genrenames .entry).  Each user defined genre name entry maps to a comma-separated-value list of genres that are associated with EPG grabbed programs.  The EPG grabbed program genre (in the CSV list) may not appear in multiple user defined genre entries (in the example, "Children" may not appear in another entry because it's already associated with "Kids"); if it does then the duplicate entry is ignored and it is undefined as to which user defined genre maps to the EPG grabbed genre.  The special entry genrenames must be a CSV list of user defined genre name entries.  This key entry is the only way user defined genre names can be recognized.

The genre map also includes the following special map rules: specifympaaratedasmovie - if yes then if the program is MPAA rated (any valid rating) then the user defined genre will be forced to "Movie".  If "Movie" then appears in your genre-color map then that color will be used on that program.  Note that in this case the actual program genre as obtained from the EPG grabber is not referenced at all, the content of the "Movie" entry in the genremap section is not read so it's ok to be empty. Following is an example of the genremap section of MediaPortal.xml.
