Microsoft MCE Remotes / MCE Keyboards
General Information
MediaPortal supports Windows Media Center Edition remote controls and keyboards out of the box. Also some OEM MCE remotes are supported, if the receiver/transmitter is certified by Microsoft.
Currently known certified and supported manufacturers:
- Microsoft/Philips MCE receiver
- Hewlett Packard MCE receiver
- FIC Spectra/Mycom Mediacenter receiver
- Toshiba/Hauppauge SMK MCE receiver
- Mitsumi MCE receiver
- Fujitsu Scaleo-E MCE receiver

FIC Spectra MCE receiver Courtesy of FIC FIC
If the manufacturer of your receiver is not listed here, your device is currently not supported by MediaPortal. If you know for sure that the device is certified by Microsoft (and works in MCE2005), contact the MediaPortal developers on the forums or on IRC, so your device can be added.
Hauppauge users, please note: This article only applies if you have this remote. If your TV card came with this remote, please click here.
If you are using Windows XP Home and your remote is not recognized by the system, you have to download and install the drivers, which you can find in our download repository.
Configuration Settings
In MediaPortal's external configuration application (section Remote/Microsoft MCE tab) you can find the following settings to adjust the behaviour of your MCE remote control:
General
Use Microsoft MCE remote or keyboard
- Enables or disables MCE remote control/keyboard support
Mapping
Opens the ?Input Mapping Editor. Here you can adjust your button mappings to fit your own needs and reset to default mappings if necessary or after a MediaPortal update.
Default Button Mapping
If some of the below mappings are not working for you, you should reset your mappings in the mapping editor to default and remove any user defined mappings this way. If it's still not working as expected, you should try a later SVN build, chances are that some functions/mappings did not exist in the MediaPortal version you are using.
Please note: The following buttons can't be remapped using the ?Input Mapping Editor, they are currently handled by the operating system. You can modify them by changing mappings in "Keys and Sounds", but this is not recommended. This problem will be addressed in a later MediaPortal version. Until then you shouldn't try to touch those buttons, you might experience unexpected behaviour.
