If you are unsure what aspect ratio to use, please read Aspect Ratio.
1.1. 4:3 Skins
See Repository > Skins > 4:3 - sort by Submit Date to see latest versions first
- 4:3 Skins are usually designed for screen resolutions of 720x576. In many cases they also work for 'true' 4:3 resolutions, like 800x600 or 1280x1024.
1.2. 16:9 Skins
See Repository > Skins > 16:9 - sort by Submit Date to see latest versions first
- 16:9 Skins are usually designed for screen resolutions of 1280x720 but scale well to 1920x1080 and other 16:9 resolutions.
1.3. 16:10 Skins
There are no 16:10 Skins for MediaPortal 1.0.2 or later listed in our Repository under Skins 16:10
However, you may find some user modified skins in the Skins Forum
2. Install a Skin
2.1. Using an Installer
Many skins have started to use the MediaPortal Extension Installer (MPEI). You may install and update these skins using the Start Menu shortcut under Team MediaPortal > MediaPortal.
The new Extensions Installer includes an Extension Browser so you can browse and check for new or updated releases of skins and plugins within the MediaPortal GUI.
For further info on our new Extensions Installer, or see the MPEI Forum
- Some skins also provide their own installer to automate installation and some condiguration for you.
2.2. Manual Installation
- If you wish to use a skin that does not provide an installer:
1. Extract the downloaded archive (zip) file into a new directory underneath Team MediaPortal\MediaPortal\skin\.
2.3. ReCache Skin Files
- Please note, skin graphics and font files are cached in your userfiles \cache folder. If you reinstall a skin, especially manually, you likely need to delete the previous cache\skin folder to see the new graphics and/or fonts.
If you change, add or remove any skin graphics, or if you alter your fonts (even Windows fonts or DPI settings) or screen resolution, recaching is required for the changes to take effect in MediaPortal.
3. Select a Skin in MediaPortal
Select the skin in MediaPortal Configuration > General > Skin.
