New Zealand support for old MediaPortal Built-in TV Functionality (TVE2)

Freeview in TVE2

By default, MediaPortal does not tune in the FreeView channels from the Optus D1 satellite, it will only find the encrypted Sky Television broadcasts. To get it to tune FreeView, you can follow these simple steps.

Prime Television (via analogue terrestrial)

If you don't get particularly good TV reception, MediaPortal may not recognise Prime when scanning for analogue channels. The easiest way to resolve this is get the correct frequency from the map on the Prime website and enter into the channel properties in MediaPortal. For instance, I receive Prime via the Sugarloaf transmitter in Christchurch, so I need the frequency 799.25. In ?MediaPortal Configuration, go into Television -> TV Channels:

  • if you have Prime in the list already, double-click it.

  • if not, click the Add button, then enter Prime in the name box and choose a channel number (eg: 5).

On the Analog tab, paste the frequency you got from the Prime website into the Frequency box (Ctrl-V doesn't work, so right click and choose Paste). Click the OK button to close the dialog.

Now click the TV Cards tab, and choose your analogue tuner from the dropdown. Make sure that Prime is listed in the Assigned TV Channels list.

Remember: if you wish to tune FreeView satellite (DVB-S) and analogue terrestrial television (such as Prime) on the same tuner card, you need to go into Television -> Program Guide and make sure that the Grab EPG from DVB option is not checked. If you don't, MediaPortal will keep the card in DVB-S mode preventing you from tuning analogue television.
