A Capture card is a piece of Hardware (a physical circuit card) which is plugged into your computer to convert a video signal into a form usable by the computer. For instance, if your home has cable TV, then the coaxial cable which carries the video signals would plug into the capture card in your PC. Capture cards are available in many styles from different manufacturers. Check the list of Supported TV cards which are known to be compatible with MediaPortal.
