I bought this chip because the Core 2 Duos are fairly powerful but not too power hungry (unlike my Intel 830D). This helps keep heat and noise down but should (hopefully) have enough power for high definition formats. I expect I will replace the stock CPU fan as with the case lid off this is the noisiest component in my HTPC.
