Overview

1. Ribbon

The Ribbon allows you to apply an action to a set of selected files. If no file has been selected and an action is executed from the ribbbon, the action will be applied to ALL files.

The Ribbon is available in Office 2007 and Office 2010 style. 

The image shows the Ribbon in Office 2007 Silver Theme style. Clicking on the Start Button, representing the MPTagThat Logo, will open the Settings / Preferences dialog.

Selecting one of the Tabs will show the available Ribbon Actions for that function.

2. Folder / Database Treeview

The Treeview allows navigation through the various drives (local or network) available. When a folder is selected, it's content is scanned and the tags of supported audio files presented in the Tracks Grid. Selecting the "Scan subfolders" checkbox, will scan recursivley the folders beneath the selected folder and list all audio files found there. Pressing "Shift-Delete" while on a folder, deletes the selected folder. The "Refresh Folder View" button re-reads the folder structure to be aware of any changes to the structure done outside MPTagThat. If a Music Database has been selected in Settings, the combo box toggles between Folder and Database Views. in the Database View files may be listed based on Artist, Album Artist, Album or Genre. Filter can be used to select files or songs out of the Database matching specific filter criteria.

3. Tracks Grid

The tracks grid shows tags for all audio files in the selected folder.

All entries, except the Status column and file properties, like duration, size, codec, etc., are directly editable by clicking into the cell and changing the value. Changing the file name will result in a rename of the file, when saving it.

When an Action, e.g changing the Artist Name in the TagEdit Panel, causes the Tags of a file to be changed, the changes automatically appear in the grid.

Changed tracks are shown in a different color and also with a warning icon ( ).

When navigating away to a different folder, a popup window informs about pending changes and the user can decide to save or discard the changes. Changes of selected files are saved using the "Save" ribbon button or using the keyboard shortcut "Ctrl-S".

Columns can be resized by left-clicking with the mouse on a column splitter in the header. The selected width is saved to be reused until changed again.

Right-clicking with the mouse in the header area opens a dialogue to select the columns, which should be displayed in the grid.

4. Non-Music Files

While scanning a folder MPTagThat automatically detects audio files and fills the Tracks Grid. All Non-Music Files, like various Cover Art, Zip Files, etc., are listed in the Non-Music File Section on the Right side of the interface. Files can be marked and deleted using the "Del" key or via the context menu. Clicking on the File Name shown below every item allows rename of the file. With that you can make sure, that only e.g. a folder.jpg with the Art Work stays in the folder and all other files, which are of no use in a Mediaplayer are removed.

5. Player Control

While tagging files, which can be quite time consuming, but now hopefully less than with other tools, you can listen to Music via the Player Control.

A Playlist, which can be opened via the "PL" button, allows playback of different files. Files can be added to the Playlist by selecting them and choosing the Ribbon button, or via the Context Menu (right-click).

6. Status Line

The Status Line shows the number of Files found in the selected folder and how many files have been selected.

On the right side is a Progress Indicator, with a "Cancel" button, which interrupts the ongoing action.
