aMPdroid uses the Android Activity system to integrate various external applications when needed.

Barcode Scanning

When adding a new client you have the option to scan a barcode. For this, an external scanner app (see below) is required.

Video Playback

There are various Android video players that are based on ffmpeg/mencoder and don't have the same restrictions on file formats then the internal Android player that is integrated in aMPdroid. A

Recommended Apps

• MoboPlayer: A good free Android video player that can playback most file formats. It works for downloaded videos and transcoded video streams, but it doesn't yet work with the raw MediaPortal rtsp stream.
• vPlayer: This app isn't free (trial available) but it is the only videoplayer currently capable (on some devices, test first) that can play the MediaPortal rtsp stream.
• MX Video Player: A good free Android video player that can playback most file formats. It works with MediaPortal rtsp stream and is free.

Music Playlists

When browsing the music collection with aMPdroid it is possible to download complete albums to your device. Unfortunately the default music player (and most external music player apps) cannot handle playlist files. The only (currently known) app that is able to open these playlist files is Just Playlists.

Recommended Apps

• Just Playlists: This app makes it possible to open playlist files (.pls) on Android devices. Until the internal music player is implemented this external app can be used to open entire albums/folders on your device.
