This page contains tips on how to fix the most common problems when setting up or using MediaPortal iViewer.

The Remote does not work

This means that you aren't connected to WifiRemote. This connection is used to send key commands and to receive status updates from the plugin such as now playing information.

MediaPortal iViewer will try to connect to WifiRemote as soon as it’s started. If a connection was established, the initialization dialog will show a checkmark to the right of the item ‘WifiRemote’. The icon in the upper left section of the remote will also glow during connection; if no connection is active the icon will be grey. Press the ‘Control’ button in the bottom tapbar to reveal the remote. Press the 'refresh' button to the left in the tapbar to re-establish a lost WifiRemote connection.

Make sure that:

  • MediaPortal is running
  • WifiRemote plugin is installed
  • WifiRemote ports are not blocked by firewall (default: 8017)

If the remote is still not working, try to connect to the plugin with the WifiRemote Demo Client. Connect from a different pc to make sure there are no network issues. Report the issue if you have checked everything above and it still does not work, see "How to report an issue?" below.

MPExtended

Media data from MPExtended (movies, tv shows, music, tv channels, etc.) are only downloaded when new data is needed. MediaPortal iViewer can only access your data if the background service MPExtended is running and can be accessed through the network. You can test the service with your webbrowser using the below url. Do the test from another machine or your iPad, in order to check if the HTPC can be accessed remotely. Change localhost to the actual hostname/ip-address of your HTPC.

http://localhost:4322/MPExtended/MediaAccessService/json/GetServiceDescription

The reply should return something like:

{"ApiVersion":5,"AvailableFileSystemLibraries":[{"Id":9,"Name":"MP Music Shares",
"Version":"0.5.99.1"},{"Id":5,"Name":"MP Shares","Version":"0.5.99.1"},
{"Id":11,"Name":"MP Picture Shares","Version":"0.5.99.1"},
{"Id":10,"Name":"MP Movie Shares","Version":"0.5.99.1"}],
"AvailableMovieLibraries":[{"Id":3,"Name":"Moving Pictures","Version":"0.5.99.1"},
{"Id":7,"Name":"MP MyVideo","Version":"0.5.99.1"}],
"AvailableMusicLibraries":[{"Id":4,"Name":"MP MyMusic","Version":"0.5.99.1"}],
"AvailablePictureLibraries":[{"Id":1,"Name":"FS Pictures","Version":"0.5.99.1"},
{"Id":8,"Name":"MP Picture Shares","Version":"0.5.99.1"}],
"AvailableTvShowLibraries":[{"Id":6,"Name":"MP-TVSeries","Version":"0.5.99.1"}],
"DefaultFileSystemLibrary":5,"DefaultMovieLibrary":3,"DefaultMusicLibrary":4,
"DefaultPictureLibrary":1,
"DefaultTvShowLibrary":6,"ServiceVersion":"0.6.0-beta"}

Some users seems to have problem with MPExtended even though 'Check Connections' during setup works fine. The reason has been a problem with the request for latest pictures. Disable Latest pictures in Home screen if you get this issue.

You can also find this link in the MpExtended Configurator.

Initialization fail at the EPG and the app exit to Home

Really large channel groups can give this issue(800+ channels). Current workaround is to change the default channel group, in MPiV settings, to a group with less channels.

Streaming does not work

This most likely means that the MPExtended Service doesn't have access to your files. MPExtended is started with the Local System Account, so if this User has no access rights to your media files, it can't stream them to MediaPortal iViewer. This often happens if the files are stored on a NAS or a server. The first thing to try is to enter the Windows user credentials in MPExtended configurator. If that doesn’t work, run the service using an account that has access to NAS/server. Further information of_how run MPExtended with a different account can be found here_[ |Network drives].

Subtitles does not work during streaming

This is a known limitation of the software MediaPortal iViewer is built in. The available subtitles can be selected but will not appear during streaming. We hope this issue will be resolved in a future update.

How to report an issue?

Post your report in the trouble shooting section of the forum. Include log files from both MediaPortal iViewer, MediaPortal and MPExtended.
Set the logger to be active in 'MediaPortal iViewer Settings/General & Activities'. By default it’s inactive and will only log during initialization. Activate this setting to log all activities during app usage. The log can be displayed by pressing the ‘Display Log’ button or by holding the cogwheel in top bar for five seconds. The log can be emailed to support by pressing the ‘Send’ button. An email will then be created with the log as email content. Please add in short what your issue is.
