Table of Contents

Overview

The General Tab in MyFilms Setup contains the most commonly used settings.

General Tab

When you open MyFilms Setup, the General tab displays:

Catalog/Database Info

  1. *Catalog File (XML) : Complete filename for your XML Movies Database* (use the Browse button to select)
    1. Catalog Type : Your catalog's Type (i.e. ANT Movie Catalog or DVD Profiler etc.) - select from dropdown list

Warning: AMC 4.2 is NOT compatible with previous versions, and thus not supported by My Films. For further details See the forum thread: WARNING - AMC 4.2 incompatibility.  As of v 6.1.1 if you attempt to save a config using a catalog in AMC 4.2. format you will receive a message, and the config will not be saved:

Custom Config Filter

You can filter your config to display only specific movies, such as only 'family' movies in one config, and 'adult' movies in another, which you protect with a password.

See Filters Setup for details, or the PIN Protection Setup Guide for details on how to control access to some movies using the Filter Editor.

Security

  1. Password - Enter a password to protect this configuration. You may create multiple configurations - some password protected and some not.  This is especially useful when using a Filter to create a configuration which displays only adult films which you do not wish your children to see (even the fanart/covers will then not be visible to them).
  2. Repeat - to confirm the password.

See the PIN Protection Setup Guide for more details.

Title Order

This is one of the most important settings in MyFilms as it can affect matching your movies in many cases.

  1. Master Title : Required - the Title in your database you wish to use as the Master Title by the plugin.
    AMC has 3 Titles : Original, Translated and Formatted. You must define which one you want to use.
    Warning: The Title field you select must have data or the movies where it is empty will not be added to your database!
    1. Group Hierarchy Separator : You can simulate a hierarchy by using the character you enter here. For example a backslash '\' :
      1. Series\Friends\Season 1\episode 1
      2. Series\Friends\Season 1\episode 2
      3. Series\Friends\Season 1\episode 3
      4. Series\Friends\Season 2\episode 1
        will be displayed as a hierarchy - first one folder with 4 entries,
        then a folder with 2 entries 'Season 1' and 'Season 2' and so on...
  2. Secondary Title : the Title you wish to display as the alternate Title
  3. Sort Title : Select the Title you wish to use when choosing 'Sort by Name' in the My Films main menu (default=Formatted Title) This option also affects what displays in the Sort options for Custom Views on the Views Tab

Note: Most websites display Original Titles and My Films grabs and maps these to the Original Title field.  Often websites display a localized Title, and these titles are grabbed and mapped to the Translated Title field.  However, on English websites, foreign language films sometimes display the English titles and sometimes the Original Titles and sometimes both in different listings.

Movie Playback

In most cases you only need to select the DB Field for Movie Source info. My Films will use the path and filename stored there to access and play your movies. However, if you use a catalog that does NOT contain source data, or wish to search for movie files if they have moved, you may select the Playback Search Configuration options.

  1. DB Field for Movie Source Info : select the field in your XML database where you store the Movie's file name. Often in AMC this is URL field (address Web), but you can define any other unused field of your database. Many users choose the Source field.
    1. Scan media on start - My Films will search your media paths (movies and trailers) on startup to find the currently available media files. This is useful if you have offline media such as USB drives or NAS servers.
       If you do not enter data in the 'DB Item for Movie Source Info' box, i.e. you do not have Source entered in your movie catalog. It will use the 'Search by Movie's name' options instead.
      Note: if you have many movies in different locations this can take some time, you can always Update online availability within the MyFilms GUI via the Global Updates menu option.
  2. Paths for Movies File Search  - The plugin will search in the folders you select for 'Paths for Movies File Search''. You can selecte or enter several folders separated by ';' (semi-colon).
  3. Search by Movie's Name - If you don't want to store the filename for each movie, you can ask the plugin to search for the right file. Check this option and indicate which field the plugin should search for the movie title/name. The filename must contain the value of the chosen field!
    1. Only exact matches - if you have several movies files with similar names, you may wish to only search for exact matches.
    2. Search in Sub Folders - enable this option if you wish the search for Movie files to include sub folders of the path selected in Paths for Movies File Search.
  4. Offline Media Identification Item: If the movie file isn't found, you can select a field to display the location of the movie (such as a CD / DVD location or catalog number) and a text message to display.
  5. External Player - as of v 6.0.0, you may choose to use an External Player with My Films (can be useful for playing Blu-ray discs.
    1. Enter the path to your external player (you may use the [,,,] button to browse)
    2. Enter the supported placeholders for the media file to be played.

      %filename% -> media file name
      %fps% -> refreshrate in frames per second
      %root% -> Root directory
      %drive% -> drive letter

    3. Enter the media file extensions for the files you wish to play using an External player.

Pre-Launching Command

You may run a command when MyFilms starts.
