Overview
Use the Fanart Manager to download, delete or create your own fanart images.
Setup
There are two main places to setup fanart options:
- MyFilms Setup > Artwork Tab > Fanart section - for storage and display options
- AMC Updater > Database Fields tab > Fanart Handling - for downloading fanart when importing new movies
See the Custom Artwork for details about adding your own fanart images for films, views or groups.
Download Fanart for all films
Fanart is downloaded by default when you import films either via:
- the Global Updates > Import/Update all movies option in My Films
- AMC Updater.
However, you can also download fanart (or update and add new images) for all your films within MyFilms:
- Select Global Updates from the Main Menu
- Select Download fanart (all films)
Note: This may take a while depending on your internet bandwidth and number of films, but it runs in the background.
Fanart Manager
You can manage fanart for a single movie (selected film) using the Fanart Manager option on the context menu.
Note: the 'Create' fanart options only display when you are in the Detail window.
Download Fanart (selected film)
Download all available fanart images from TMDb website for the movie.
Fanart is added to the path you select in MyFilms Setup > Artwork tab in a sub-folder created for each movie, or group.
Delete Fanart
You may delete unwanted fanart images from within My Films, using either the context menu in the Main screen, or via the Fanart Manager accessed from the Details screen.
Note: My Films will delete all fanart for the selected film, including any fanart you create, but will ask you to confirm first.
Create fanart from movie
If fanart is not available for your film, or you wish to display backdrops for your own videos, documentaries, etc. you can create fanart/thumbnail images from the video itself. You may even choose to add fanart to films with only one or two images. There are four different types of fanart you can create:
- Created single mosaic - a 'wall' of small thumbnails from the file
- Create multiple fanart images (the number depends on the resolution of the original file)
- Create both single mosaic and multiple fanart images
- Create 'snapshot' fanart from current playback position
Create snapshot fanart
The option to 'Create 'snapshot' from current playback position' will only display if a video file is playing. So to create a snapshot:
- Play a video
- Pause the playback to select an exact frame, or simply select the option at the playback position you wish
- Select Back/Return key on your remote, or Esc on keyboard, to return to the Detail screen in My Films
- Press Info/More or F9 on keyboard for context menu
- Select Create 'snapshot' fanart from current playback position from the Fanart Manager menu.
You may also use the "record" button on your remote, when playing a movie to take a snapshot from the current position. The video does not necessarily need to be stopped - so you can take one or more snapshots while the video is running.
Created fanart storage
Whatever style of fanart you choose to create, the fanart images will be added to your fanart folder for the film or video (default location is MediaPortal\thumbs\MyFilms\Fanart
{film name}) with a unique filename e.g.:
- {film title} [mosaic].jpg
- {film title} [single] playback position_number.jpg
- {film title} [snapshot-number].jpg
So you can always see what type of fanart images you have.
Note: 'Snapshot' images are always added. However, when you re-create single (mosaic) or multiple fanart images, they will overwrite any previously saved single/multiple fanart images. Fanart images you create will also be deleted when you select 'Delete Fanart (selected film)'.
Fanart Display
Fanart displays according to the settings in MyFilms Setup on the Artwork tab such as:
- Disable fanart display
- Random fanart in main window, groups or views (Detail window always displays all your fanart images)
- Fanart for Default Views or All Views
- Default Fanart image that displays when there is no fanart
Don't forget to check out the 'Full Fanart' view in the Details window - see Detail Views.
