Overview

How to setup Trakt integration with My Films.

Trakt Plugin Setup

Download and install the Trakt for MediaPortal plugin.

  1. You must first create an account on the Trakt.tv website
  2. In either Trakt Setup or GUI Settings, setup a Trakt user under Account Settings and enable My Films under Plugin Settings.
  3. You can exclude movies you do not wish to sync to Trakt under Restrictions in Trakt Plugin Setup
  4. You can choose to 'Create MyFilms Categories' which will sync your Trakt "Watchlist, User-defined (Custom) Lists and Recommendations to the Trakt Categories extended field. Then you can display a view of all your Trakt Categories in MyFilms.

My Films Setup

Go to the Trakt & Latest Media tab in My Films Setup and check Enable TRAKT synchronization for each config and/or database catalog you wish to synchronize.
Note: Remember to save your config/settings before switching to another config.

Once you have enabled Trakt, My Films will automatically integrate with the Trakt plugin, so when you watch a movie (or change the watch status) or rate the movie, it will automatically update your user profile on Trakt.tv website.

Synchronize only some films

Although you can 'restrict' films one by one using Trakt Setup, if you wish to synchronize only some films, then you may create two separate configs in MyFilms (such as one for 'public' movies and another for your private movies, or for home movies) and filter one config to display only the movies you wish to display on the Trakt website, see Multiple DBs or Configs for details.

Multi-user Setup

You may have different configs on different PCs and sync each to a separate Trakt user profile, however My Films also supports multi-user watch status and ratings if several people use the same database or Config in My Films (either on the same PC or in a networked environment). Even switching between local or Trakt users on a single machine or in a centralized network config is possible.

  1. As of v 6.0.0 Multi-User States are automatically enabled for AMC4 catalog types (see Multiple Users for details)
  2. Enter your Trakt user name as your 'Active User Profile Name' in Update Setup (Multi-User States) if it is not already preset. If you add additional users within My Films (Options > Global Settings > Choose User Profile) Trakt will sync to your Trakt user name by default even if you use or switch to another (local) user name -  i.e. unless that user also syncs to their Trakt account
    • When multiple accounts are added in Trakt, MyFilms will offer all available accounts in the menu dialog and switch the current Trakt user to the one you select:
    • The current user name and online status  (e.g."local", "online", "offline") are displayed (skin dependent)
    •  In networked environments, with central databases, you can configure a different Trakt user on each PC in Trakt plugin setup. My Films will keep track of all user watched counts in your central database.

For more info on multi user features and display, see Multiple Users

Tip: if you do not have multiple users for your database, you do not need to set the user name to your Trakt User. My Films will automatically sync to your Trakt user profile, and thus update multi user states for both the Default user and your Trakt user for you.
