Overview

How to create advanced filters for either configs or views using the Filters Editor.

Filter Methods

There are several ways you can filter your data in MyFilms

  1. Global Filters - to filter you films by watched status, available (online) media, films with trailers, or by minimum rating (which you can set within My Films). Global filters apply to search results and views as well. They can be turned on and off in My Films. No setup is required, they are 'built-in'. but you can choose to start MyFilms with a global filter - see Quick Setup > Start Settings (Other Start Settings)
  2. Custom Views - you can filter a view easily by specifying a value, such as only English films, or only High Def films. You can choose to start MyFilms with your custom filtered view - See Custom Views (Filtering Views) for details. As of v 6.0.0 you may also use the Filter Editor to add more complex filter expressions to filter a view.
  3. Config Filters - for different users, types of films, or to password protect films* *(see PIN Protection for details)

This tutorial focuses on using the Filter Editor to create advanced filters for either a view or for a config.

Filter Editor

As of v 6.0.0, My Films provides a new Filter Editor to help you create advanced filters (e.g. using Regex expressions) for different configs for your database for a view.

Access the Filter Editor

For Configs: In Setup > General Tab,:

Press the Edit button to access the Filter Editor. Once you have created a filter for your Config, it will display in the preview box.

For Views:

Click the [...] button under Filter Expression to open the Filter Editor

Create a Filter Expression

First Condition:

  1. Select the field you wish to filter, for example for adult films you may have added certification to a field, or you may have added a Category 'Adult' to your films.
  2. Select an operator: =, #, >, <, like, not like
  3. Enter the value (e.g. Adult)
  4. If you wish to combine two filters, select a boolean operator: or, and
  5. The display will show the results of your filter parameters.

Second Condition:

If you wish more than one condition for your filter, select an operator (AND, OR) to combine the two conditions and repeat the above for the second condition.

Freetext Filter:

You may also add a free text filter which uses the 'AND' operator.

Note: When selecting fields for filters, as of v 6.0.0 you will find a number of 'internal' fields available in the drop down list which you may use to define filters, for example:

  • AgeAdded - e.g." AgeAdded < 30 "- filters your films to list only those added in the last 30 days
  • Persons - e.g. "Persons like 'Max Moritz'" - filters your films to list only those containing that person in ANY person field (e.g. Actors, Director, Writer, Producer etc.)
