Overview

How to add your own covers, logos, view images and fanart for your films, groups and custom views in My Films.

Setup

Most artwork settings can be customized on the Artwork Tab in MyFilms Setup. Views Menu images can be customized on the Views Tab

My Films supports customization of almost all artwork.

Movie Covers

See Cover Manager to learn how to download covers using any grabber, or multiple covers from TMDb, and select the cover you prefer to display.

You can also add your own cover images to the folder you select for Cover Images Path in Artwork Setup.

If you use folder.jpg in a movie folder for covers:

  1. Select Use folder.jpg in Cover Handling on the Database Fields tab in AMC Updater
  2. Disable Internet lookup so your custom cover won't be updated during import or updates using AMC Updater.

Note: When Updating Existing Films MyFilms will always ask if you wish to replace your cover with any new cover found.

You may also choose to auto create covers from the movie, especially for films like home movies or documentaries which may not have covers available on the internet:

  1. Select Create Movie Thumb in Cover Handling on the Database Fields tab in AMC Updater
  2. Disable Internet lookup so your custom cover won't be updated during import or updates using AMC Updater.

Group Covers (Box Sets, Groups)

By default, My Films will display random covers from the films in the group.

However, you can download or select images manually and add them to the folder you select for Cover Images Path in Artwork Setup using the 'group' name.

Example:  for a group named 'Star Trek' just save your cover 'Star Trek.jpg' to your covers folder.

Tip: TMDb website provides covers for 'Collections'. Just search for a movie in your collection, then press the Collections link in the left panel.

View Images

There are several images for Views: View Menu images, Default View image as well as custom images for each view.  You can customize them all!

Views Menu Images

To select a custom image to display on the Views Menu:

  1. Go to the Views Tab, in Custom View Editor, select the View you want to customize
  2. Click on the Image
  3. Select any .jpg or .png image you wish

Note: MyFilms provides a set of default images for the preset custom views in

...\MediaPortal\Thumbs\MyFilms\DefaultImages

. As of v 6.0.0 you may also add a ShowAll.jpg to display a separate image for the ***Show All *** menu item on the Views Menu.

Default View Images

If no view image is found, *a default image will display (if *Default View Image  is enabled) according to the following priorities:

  1. Default.jpg stored in:

    ...\\[ViewImagesPath\]\ViewImages\\[viewname\]

    subfolder

  2. Views Menu image (see above section) - selected on the Views Tab > Custom View Editor for each view.
  3. Default View Image - click the default image on the Artwork Tab in Setup, and select any .jpg or .png image you wish

Custom Default.jpg

My Films automatically creates sub folders for each view (i.e. Category, Country, Year, etc.) in the

...\ViewImages

subfolder of the View Images path you select in Artwork Setup*.* This allows you to create a specific default image for each view rather than display the same default image for all views or the same image you display on the Views Menu.

Example: When there is no image for a genre, the Category view displays:

...\MediaPortal\Thumbs\MyFilms\ViewImages\category\Default.jpg

So, suppose you would like to display a different default image for different persons views, e.g. Actors, Directors, Writers, Producers, etc :

  1. In Windows Explorer, open your View Images Path (as set in Artwork Setup)
  2. Open the

    ...\ViewImages\actors

subfolder to add a custom default image for Actors

  3. Save your custom image as Default.jpg
  4. Repeat the above for each persons view saving a different Default.jpg for each view

Custom Images for specific Views

If you wish to go a step further, you can add custom images for one or more views.

My Films includes Genre images for the Category View, provided courtesy of "Carlos 'Fiinix' Nabb" Fiinix Design , stored in:

...\MediaPortal\Thumbs\MyFilms\ViewImages\category\

*Note*: If you wish to modify or add Genre/Category images in the same style as the default My Films images, a template is available. However, please submit your images in the My Films forum as they are licensed under Creative Commons Share, and we have agreed to share all custom images with the artist and any other users.   A set of flag images is available in the MyFilms Forum to use with the Country or Languages views. To display these in the Country view, copy them to: *

...\MediaPortal\Thumbs\MyFilms\ViewImages\country\

*Note*: Image filenames must match the data in your country field, e.g. USA or US or United States. If your movie catalog provides view images, such as Studio Images, you may display these in your Studio view by copying them to:

...\MediaPortal\Thumbs\MyFilms\ViewImages\studio\

The above examples assume the default view images path, however the

...\ViewImages

sub-folders are created for the Views Images Path you select in Artwork Setup.

Persons views

My Films downloads and displays persons images if:

  1. You Enable Downloads for Persons Views in Artwork Setup - person images are automatically downloaded when you open the Details view.
  2. You Enable Load Person Images in AMC Updater > Database Fields Tab under Fanart Handling - persons images will be downloaded when you import new films.

See Actors/Persons Setup for further information. You can add custom View Menu images, default view images or custom person images or s the same as for other views as described above. For example you could add photos of your friends to display in the Borrowers view in:

...\MediaPortal\Thumbs\MyFilms\ViewImages\borrower\

Indexed Views

Indexed views use images provide by the skin you use, stored in

...\MediaPortal\skin\\[skin name\]\Media\alpha

folder.  If you replace these with your own images, they will display for all indexed views in MediaPortal, not only in MyFilms.

Fanart

Using the Fanart Manager in My Films (Details Window > Context Menu) you can create your own fanart images from the movie.

You may use these, or other custom fanart images you prefer for your films, groups, or views:

Films

Fanart Manager will save any fanart images you create to the correct folder.

Or, you may add your own fanart images to the folder you select for Fanart path in Artwork Setup, the default is

...\MediaPortal\thumbs\MyFilms\Fanart

Note: Fanart images must be stored in a separate folder for each movie.

Box Sets, Groups

Add custom fanart images to the

_Group

sub-folders in the folder you select for Fanart path in Artwork Setup,

Example: Add Star Trek group fanart images to :

...\MediaPortal\thumbs\MyFilms\Fanart_Group\Star Trek

folder

Views

Add custom fanart images to the

_View

sub-folders in the folder you select for Fanart path in Artwork Setup,

Example: Category fanart images are added to :

...\MediaPortal\thumbs\MyFilms\Fanart_View\category

folder

Logos

You can select the Logos you wish to use on the Logos Tab in MyFilms Setup - either MyFilms set, MP logos, logos provided by the skin you use, or a folder where you store your own custom logos.

You can also define your own logos rules to determine which logos display for different types of movies,or even select a Custom logos set such as one provided by your movie catalog software. See Logos Editor for details.

Certification logos by country

As of v 6.1.0, MyFilms supports certification logos by country. You may select the country you wish to use for certification logos on the Logos Tab in Setup.

If your skin does not support certification logos by country, or does not provide them for your country, or  you can:

  1. Select the MyFilms Logos pack in Logos Setup if it supports your country
  2. Add your own certification logos to country sub-folders of your skin's

    media\logos

    folder (or

    MediaPortal\thumbs\MyFilms\DefaultLogos\Certification

if you use MyFilms logos pack). . See Skinning Logos for details.

  3. Enter the two digit (ISO) country code in the Country box in Logos Setup that matches the certification logos sub-folder you created.

Note: logo image file names must match the certification value, e.g. PG-13, not USA PG-13.

See Skinning Logos if you need further details.
