Overview

Use the Setup Wizard to configure My Film with ease.

Introduction

My Films provides a handy Setup Wizard, which will preset default options for you, including logos configuration, artwork paths, custom views and display items, search separators, grabber scripts etc.

When you first install My Films it will automatically ask if you wish to create a new Configuration (Config) and open the Setup Wizard for you.

However, you may use the Setup Wizard Button any time to create a new Config (Profile). My Films allows you to create multiple config files for the same or different databases with different options for different users, filters, etc.

Accessing the Setup Wizard

As of v 6.0.0 you can access the Setup Wizard from any Tab in My Films Setup by clicking the Setup Wizard button at the bottom of the screen:

Confirm if you really wish to create a new Config and open the Wizard:

Using the Setup Wizard

As of v 6.1.0, the Setup Wizard has been improved to support network setups with central configs for both the server and client setups.

When you select the Setup Wizard, it now offers an option to select the type of setup:

  1. Setup Type: Choose Local Setup, Central Setup - Master, or Central Setup - Client
  2. Config Name - Enter any name you wish for your Config. Remember you can create multiple Configs for different users or purposes.
  3. Catalog Type - Select the Catalog Type from the dropdown list.  This will preset most options specifically for each catalog type.
Note: If you use NFO files, select AMC Extended 4.1 catalog type and check 'use nfo grabber
  4. Country - this option will preset internet grabbing options for you by choosing the most likely grabbers script for your language as well as finding the correct AKA Titles (on supported websites) and Certifications for your country.

Note: As of v 6.0.0, Country is preset to 'USA (Full Detail grabbing)' in the Setup Wizard to use the IMDB-Full grabber script which grabs more data (such as writers, certification, alternate titles) and supports more Grabber options. However, it does take longer, so if you do not want all extended data, then select USA for the standard IMDb grabber,  or you can elect another grabber after setup, on the General Tab, or when updating data within MyFilms.

Warning: AMC 4.2 is NOT compatible with previous versions, and thus not supported by My Films. For further detail, see the forum thread: WARNING - AMC 4.2 incompatibility.  As of v 6.1.1 if you attempt to select a catalog in AMC 4.2 XML format you will receive a message, and the config will not be saved:

Dialogs

The Wizard will ask you a few simple questions to create your configuration, and preset many default options for you:

  1. Use an Existing Catalog?
    • Click 'Yes', if you already have a movie catalog/database, then select the location of your XML file from the Explorer window. - either AMC XML database file, or the exported XML from another catalog.
    • Click 'No' if you wish to create a new catalog/database*.* The Wizard will open the importer at the end of setup.
  2. Use Original or Translated Title?

If you normally 'grab' English data from English languages sites, you will likely wish to choose Original Title.  If you wish to display localized Titles in your own language (depending on the site where you grab the data), then choose Translated Title.
WARNING - if you select Translated Title you must have movie titles in the Translated Title field for all your movies.
  3. Movie Folder

Note: Only required for AMC catalog types - select the folder that contains all your films (they can be in subfolders).
External Catalogs do not need to specify a folder because the movie file name is contained in the exported xml.

If you select Ant Movie Catalog as your catalog type, the Setup Wizard will automatically create a desktop shortcut to AMC Updater for quick access using the AMC Updater options you select on the[ Import|Import Tab] tab in Setup.

Review your Settings

You should always review and if necessary, modify any of the default presets, especially:

  • Views tab for selecting a default view, modifying or adding custom views or display items.
  • Trailer tab to verify the field selected to store trailer locations is correct and does not contain other data.
  • Artwork tab to verify artwork paths as well as customize default images, covers, images for views and persons, and fanart.
Note:  The setup wizard automatically sets your cover path to relative path and store covers in

    \pictures

    sub-folder of your catalog folder.

There are many ways to customize My Films, see the Tutorials tab on the Main My Films Wiki page or the Setup Guides.

Note: For catalog types other than AMC, see the Wiki pages for each catalog under Supported Catalogs.  There you will find specific setup considerations, presets, field mapping and extended field options unique to each catalog.
