Notes

  • The available back buffer is Min Files * File Size.
  • The available pause buffer is Max Files * File Size (Assuming diskspace is available) .
  • When the paused buffer exceeds the difference between Max - Min then you will start to lose your back buffer.
  • The maximum number of files can be any number up to ( [Disk Space] - [Filesize] - Overhead  ) / [Fizesize], however if the max number of files is increased and the minimum number of files fully utilizes all the available space, then it is possible for a paused client to use more than its fair share of buffer, which would limit the potential buffer size of the other clients.
  • Suggested values aims to have an overhead of at least 50 MB or 1% of ramdrive size to cover system files.
  • In the table above we set the Minimum file number to utilise all of the ramdisk. This means that all clients have the maximum possible back buffer for timeshifiting and all clients can achieve this buffer if simultaneously timeshifting.
  • In the table above we set the Maximum file number to the same number as the minimum file number. This means that a prolonged paused client would not reduce the available buffer for the other clients.
  • Here is a forum thread discussing timeshift buffers and ramdrives with some examples and further explanations.

Constraints

  • [Disk Size] - [Filesize] - Overhead >= [Filesize] * [#Minimum files] * [#Clients]
  • [Disk Size] - [Filesize] - Overhead >= [Filesize] * [#Maximum files]
