If you choose to use the Shares view to explore your music by your file/folder structure, here is the best way to organize your folders and files.

This methodology enables you to browse your music easily and conveniently in MediaPortal.

The following  folder structure is recommended because you can use exactly the same file/folder name structure for complete albums, incomplete albums, compilation albums, multi-disc albums or single tracks.

Folder/File Structure

For folder and filename structure you should use:

  • \music\<Album Artist>\<Album Name>\<Disc#><Track#> <Artist> - <Title>.mp3
  • for example in windows Explorer your folder file structures would be:
    • Music
      • The Smashing Pumpkins
        • Siamese Dream
          • 01 The Smashing Pumpkins - Cherub Rock.mp3

Remember, if it is a single disc album then just omit the Disc#

If you don't have all the tracks for an album, or the track doesn't belong to an album, just name the album as "singles"
