    Overview

How to configure settings for the Weather plugin

    Important Notice

The Weather Channel recently removed their free API, which means you currently cannot download weather information. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working on a solution as possilble. Many skins have already implemented support for the World Weather plugin in the meantime.

    Weather Settings

Here you can configure the settings for using the Weather feature in MediaPortal.

In fact, you must enter a city or location before you can view Weather.

Begin with the basic settings for:

    • Temperature - Celsius (Default) or Fahrenheit.
    • Wind Speed - kilometers / hour, miles / hour, meters / second, knots or Beafort (Default).
    • Refresh interval (minutes) - Default 60 - select how often you wish to refresh the weather settings.

Cities - you must add at least one city to the list. To do this push the "Add" button, the window below will appear:

    • Enter the name of the city you want to add and press "Search".
    • When you press "Search", the window expands and shows a list of possible cities.
    • Chose the correct one. You will then be able to look at the weather info for this city when you start MediaPortal.

    Add Weather Images

If you want to have a satellite image, temperature image, etc. you have to add them separately.

You can add them when you add a city or locaiton as in the screenshot above or, if you already have a city entered, you can edit it to add the weather images (but you won't get the nice image previews).

Just select a city and press the Edit button:

See Weather Images for a list of sites which may provide weather images for your location, as well as links to weather image locations in the Customiziation > Localization > By Country pages in this wiki.

If there is no site listed for your location:

    1. Search the internet and find a weather site.
    2. Search for a proper image.
    3. Right-click and select "Copy link" on the image.

Please help the community and update our wiki with the location at the Weather Images page.

Once you have found a weather image link, add the copied link to the correct image path and press OK. The pictures will now appear when you select them on the Weather menu in the Weather feature in MediaPortal.

    Notes:

    1. The image URL:s have to be independent of which day it is. If the images do not display or show the wrong day after a day or two, then the link is wrong. The picture should always have the same path and name to work.
    2. Even though the instructions mention these images have to be online (on HTTP addresses), you can use downloaded images from your hard disk. This makes it possible to run scripts on your own computer that download more complicated images, and use these in MediaPortal.
