The MediaPortal Installation Tool (also known as the Deploy Tool) allows you to download and install all necessary components for a complete installation of MediaPortal. It is included in every release of MediaPortal and manages, among other things, the choice of TV engine, installation of a database server if needed and network configuration.
Please make sure your system meets the hardware and software requirements for MediaPortal.
It is recommended to read the XP Setup guide about how to make a possible operating system and software setup with Windows XP .
If you have already installed MediaPortal and want to perform an update, please read Updating MediaPortal.
Note: updating is usually not possible for major new releases due to changes. Updates are however possible for alpha, beta and final versions of a release, and sometimes for minor (bug) releases.
MediaPortal requires the correct version of a number of Windows components see Requirements:
If you are installing a new version of MediaPortal for the first time, you should use the Download Only option to save these downloaded files, in case you wish to reinstall MediaPortal on another PC, a clean OS or a new HDD.
Note: It is recommended to let the Deploy Tool download the correct components/files for you. However, if you choose to download them separately, please be sure to use the x86 package of Visual C++ Redistributable even on x64 systems. Also, on Microsoft's download page, Windows 7 is not listed for Visual C++ Redistributable. Nevertheless it is required and working fine for Windows 7 as well.
Once you are ready, proceed to Select Options
