How to get FLV files to play inside MediaPortal

FLV is a very popular format for web videos, especially YouTube. If you add FLV playback support to your system, then you will be able to use one of the online videos plugins which play videos located on sites like YouTube.

    Download

    • You need the FLVSplitter from the MPC-HC Project.
      • To get that filer, visit the download section and download the latest version of the Stand alone Filters - Win32
    • ffdshow tryouts - If you already have a recent build installed on your system, you do not have to download it again. Skip the ffdshow install section and go to the configuration instead

    Installation

    FLV Splitter

    1. Inside the Stand alone Filters - Win32 file you downloaded, you find the FLVSplitter.ax file.
    2. Extract that file to a location which you won't be able to delete by accident (i.e. C:\Filters\FLV).
    3. register the FLVSplitter.ax
    4. If you are not familiar with how to register filters in windows:

      1. Download the un-register_helpfiles.zip  file.
      2. Extract the register_FLVSplitter.bat and un-register_FLVSplitter.bat files into the folder where you have the FLVSplitter.ax stored.
      3. Now right click the register_FLVSplitter.bat file and select run as administrator
      4. A command prompt will open, and a message will appear that the filter was registered.
    5. If you want to remove the filter one day, just rund the un-register_FLVSplitter.bat file

Note: If you are getting the DllRegisterServer error code 0x80070005, then you probably didn't run register the filter as administrator.

If you extract the zip file to a different folder from where FLVSplitter.ax is stored, remember to edit the bat files to include the full path to FLVSplitter.ax (e.g. C:\Filters\FLV).
